JICA Study TourⅠ (SDGs)
Fukushima from the perspective of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of global goals that cover a variety of social and economic development issues seen around the world These goals were set by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, and by adopting these goals, member states are committed to achieving a peaceful, inclusive and prosperous society in which no one is left behind.
While the concept of “global goals” may seem distant and unrelated to our daily lives, the targets adopted by these SDGs have significant meaning when it comes to thinking about problems and challenges that have been emphasized by the situation in Fukushima, such as alternative energy sources, and resilient community building.
On this tour, participants learned about complex and diverse issues still faced in Fukushima today from people involved with revitalization efforts in the area. Through their stories of adversity and hope, participants developed a strong insight into the what the positives and challenges were in Fukushima today from the perspective of SDGs.
